🛒Ingredients needed to prepare Asparagus Omelet
- Eggs. You need about four eggs for the omelet, which is made in a skillet about 24cm in diameter.
- Asparagus. For this recipe, you need about 4 ounces of asparagus. Always use fresh asparagus as barricades and remove the tough ends for the best result.
- Seasonings. I use very simple seasoning: soft salt and black pepper. If you want to make it spicy, you may want to add a little bit of chili flake. Another way you can do this is to add some mixed herbs.
- Bacon. I have chosen to use bacon, but substituting it with smoked salmon is a healthier option.
- Others. Lastly, I add some thinly sliced bell pepper to provide crunch and color.
👉 How to make Asparagus Omelett
1. Wash the asparagus, break off the tough ends, and discard (they will break themselves in the right place). Cut the softer stalks diagonally into pieces about 1 cm long.
2. Sauté the bacon in olive oil, then add the asparagus and continue sautéing until crisp-tender. Finally, add the bell pepper and sauté for 15 seconds.
3. In a bowl, whisk eggs with the milk, salt, and pepper. Add the asparagus, bacon, cubed cheese, and bell pepper, and mix everything well.
4. Add about two teaspoons of olive oil to a nonstick skillet. Pour the egg mixture into the skillet. Push the egg liquid around to let the uncooked liquid flow to the bottom. Continue cooking the omelet over medium heat until it is set.
5. Once the eggs at the bottom of the pan have set, you can fold them into half and transfer them to a serving plate. To serve, sprinkle with fine salt, crushed pepper, and chopped parsley to serve.
Note: I prepared this omelet using the Asian method, which involves cooking until slightly brown. This technique is commonly used in Chinese fried egg dishes, particularly in Thailand, where the egg is fried until it becomes crispy at the edges. 💡Tips and notes for the best Asparagus Omelet
- I use extra virgin olive oil in this recipe, but you can substitute melted butter instead.
- You can use other types of cheese, such as feta cheese, creamy goat cheese, brie, or cheddar, instead of camembert.
- Use a wooden or silicone spatula instead of a metal one to prevent scratching the nonstick skillet.
- For fluffy eggs, whisk the eggs for a minute or two until they become fluffy before adding them to the skillet.
- The cooking time will depend on the size of the pan and the thickness of the egg mixture.
- For a variation, add smoked salmon or minced meat to the eggs. You can also add some chopped onion.
- You can substitute asparagus with French beans and cook the omelet using the same method.
- An alternative to blanching the asparagus is to sauté it in oil until it becomes crisp-tender. If you choose this method, sauté the onion at the same time.
